The County of Lambton is an urban-rural area in southwestern Ontario that is home to over 126,000 residents. The Corporation's seven divisions operate programs and services for the residents of Lambton County such as land ambulance, provincial offences court, three Long-Term Care Homes, 25 library branches, two museums, an art gallery, archives, local roadways, public health services, housing services, social services, building services and planning and development services. The Registered Practical Nurse applies public health knowledge, techniques, and skills to promote health and wellness and prevent disease in accordance with the Ontario Public Health Standards and associated Protocols and Guidelines; and the Health Protection and Promotion Act and associated Regulations.The Registered Practical Nurse promotes public health through such activities as assisting Public Health Nurses and Registered Nurses in the provision of mandated public health programs and clinical related services. Meeting the provision of service within Sexual Health, Vaccine Preventable Disease, Tuberculosis, and Sexually Transmitted Infection program areas.
Duties: • Schedule appointments• Provide telephone nursing services• Maintain clinical files, documentation and statistics• Conduct pregnancy tests• Draw blood for lab tests • Dispense prescriptions and other contraceptives• Maintain vaccines and supplies for clinics• Administer and record immunizations given in clinics• Maintain vaccine usage database• Conduct TB skin tests• Use teaching to explain concepts of public health practice, including possible consequences and resolutions using both written and oral communication skills • Collaborate with other health care providers • Assist in the training and orientation of students and other personnel as assigned • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities and maintain current professional knowledge of practices, trends, regulations, techniques, procedures, equipment, sampling and documentation • Responsible for professional competence as a Registered Practical Nurse in accordance with applicable legislation and County policyAdministration Duties:• Maintain accurate and up-to-date charting and records of daily activities • Maintain contact with other professional organizations and agencies directly or indirectly with public health programs and services• Assist in developing and evaluating programs, protocols, and strategies • Promote good interagency relationships• Record information for purposes of month end reports and statistical analysisGeneral:• Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed• Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands AnalysisThese describe the general nature and level of work being performed by incumbents in this classification.
