The County of Lambton is an urban-rural area in southwestern Ontario that is home to over 126,000 residents. On the westerly limit of the County is located St. Clair Township home to 15,000 residents and is bordered on the west by the St. Clair river. St. Clair Township offers it's residents a number of recreational activities that includes 12 waterfront parks, a waterfront trail that extends along our complete western boundary, a sports complex that includes two ice surfaces, a health club and an indoor pool. In addition there are numerous active park facilities that cater to baseball and soccer as well as three campgrounds ideally suited to take advantage of our location along the St. Clair river. The Township is home to several large industrial complexes and is ideally suited for further economic growth.

Position Overview

The Director of Community, Culture and Recreation with St. Clair Township acts as the head of all leisure activities within the municipality, including a golf course and three campgrounds. The Director is also responsible for the Museum operations and encourages the many volunteers working with the museums. The Director is responsible for ensuring proper policies and procedures are maintained at all times over the Department's finances, personnel, physical resources and administrative functions. The Director shall act as the Township's representative in leisure services providing advice to public, committees and boards.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
1. Ensure proper policies and procedures as set out are maintained at all times of the Department's personnel, physical resources, finance and administrative functions.
2. To study, analyze, evaluate present programs, policies and facilities to meet community needs. Make recommendations on the same to the Chief Administrative Officer and Council.
3. Responsible for developing alliances with community groups and organizations and volunteers.
4. To provide long range planning in leisure activities for the municipality.
5. To ensure all Provincial and Federal compliance's policies are met and carried out.
6. To prepare and present annual current and capital budgets to the Director of Finance of the Municipality.
7. To work with the Director of Finance to ensure all applicable grants are applied for and received.
8. To ensure all financial transactions are carried out in accordance with proper accounting principles.
9. To conduct meetings with community groups, volunteers and organizations with respect to community leisure activities.
10. To ensure historic cemeteries are maintained in a suitable manner.
11. To provide information and recommendations to the Council and the Chief Administrative Officer as required.
12. All other duties as assigned by Council and the Chief Administrative Officer.
13. Responsible for computer network and as System Administrator.
14. Responsible for marketing for Department programs.
15. Responsible for the maintenance of all municipal buildings, including but not limited to, the Civic Centre, the Complex, the Emergency Services and all Museums and Community Centres.


Education Qualifications:
• College diploma in the recreation/leisure field or related field
• Preference to Class B refrigeration license.

Required Experience:
• Five years in the management level and recreation/leisure field

Position Supervises:
• Facilities and Parks Coordinator, Community Program Coordinator, Museum Curators, Administrative Assistant, Reception Staff, Concession Staff, Campground Staff

This is a full-time position for St. Clair Township that regularly works 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with some evening work required. The salary range for this position is $91,504.21 to $114,380.26.
