The County of Lambton is an urban-rural area in southwestern Ontario that is home to over 126,000 residents. The Corporation's seven divisions operate programs and services for the residents of Lambton County such as land ambulance, provincial offences court, three Long-Term Care Homes, 26 library branches, two museums, an art gallery, archives, local roadways, public health services, housing services, social services, building services and planning and development services. Assist caseworkers in obtaining information required to determine eligibility for Ontario Works assistance.
Students will meet with clients to assess ongoing eligibility for assistance, gather required information, complete necessary forms and prepare payments for approval. Students may assist in employment planning with clients. Students will make referrals to community agencies as determined appropriate.
Post-secondary students in the Social Sciences field such as Psychology, Sociology or the Social Service Worker program will gain experience in people-centred service and assessment. Training is provided on Ontario Works policy and procedure as well as on the Provincial social assistance technology. Summer Student positions with the County of Lambton may be dependent on funding and the funding criteria, which specifies that students must:• Be between 15 and 30 years of age• Registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year• Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act• Legally entitled to work in Canada• Will not have another full-time job
