The Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership is a one-stop shop for economic development services whose mission is to promote the distinctive advantages that Sarnia-Lambton has to offer to companies and residents. By coordinating community-based economic development initiatives and working to maintain a commercially attractive environment, we foster new business creation as well as help ensure that established firms remain and grow here in our region.

Position Overview

The Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership is hiring a Business Retention and Expansion (BR+E) and Consultation Coordinator to build capacity for the economic development team. This is a temporary full-time contract position with an anticipated end date of March 31, 2020. In addition to the hourly wage, this position will receive 12% in lieu of benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities

Business Retention and Expansion

• Identify businesses and proactively conduct outreach to coordinate initial meetings
• Engage business community by attending approximately one evening business function per week
• Conduct 5 business outreach visits per week
• Support Economic Development Officers (EDOs) with background information and provide follow-up support
• Maintain and secure confidential information
• Input and maintain information through Customer Relationship Management (ZOHO) software
• Discuss BR+E initiative with local municipalities

Community Consultation Event Planning

• Organize and coordinate 11 community consultations across lower-tier municipalities (selecting and booking venues, planning advertising and promotion and sending invitations)
• Consult and engage with local municipalities
• Develop content to educate and engage residents and businesses in economic development
• Liaise with consultation facilitators and provide event support including recording findings
• Assist EDO team with analysis of resident, business and consultation feedback
• Identify community ambassadors and provide marketing support
• Work with partners to conduct Market Threshold Analysis
• Develop content for prospectus marketing materials and provide support to marketing coordinator


Minimum Formal Education

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a combination of education and experience in a relevant discipline working with rural and urban businesses.

• 3 - 4 years of experience in a related position
• Well developed research and analytical skills
• Effective facilitation, marketing and presentation skills for diverse groups
• Experience in working with various sectors (agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, retail, industrial etc.)
• Knowledge and experience in working with government funding programs

Valid drivers’ licence and access to a vehicle required. Evening and weekend work required to attend community events.
