Position Overview

The Township of St. Clair Department of Community Services is seeking a highly motivated energetic Coordinator of Community Programs who will be responsible for managing the delivery of all recreation programs and services for the Department, including but not limited to aquatic, arena, recreation, health and fitness.

The Coordinator of Community Programs is a Temporary, full time non - union position. The incumbent will work 35 hours per week for the agreed coverage of a maternity leave with a wage of $56,926.09 - $71,157.61 per year.

The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a recreation/aquatic field, experience in the direct delivery of recreation programming and a college/university diploma/degree in a related field. Certifications required include Standard First Aid/CPR Instructor, NLS/Instructor, Red Cross and Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer and Aquatic Supervisory Training.

POSITION TITLE:
Coordinator of Community Programs
REPORTS TO:
Director of Community, Culture and Recreation
POSITION SUPERVISES:
3 Full-time staff
Approximately 40 Part-time staff
BASIC FUNCTION:
Working directly under the supervision of the Director of Community Services is responsible for managing the delivery of all recreation programs and services for the Department, including but not limited to aquatic, arena, recreation, and health and fitness and Reception. The position will perform administrative duties, direct programming, deal with the public and customers, recommend and develop new programs to meet community needs, measure results, and other duties deemed appropriate by the Director. The position requires specialized knowledge and training.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for the managing of day to day delivery of recreation programs and services. This may involve direct, co-sponsorship, or partnership participation by the Department.
2. Responsible for program development that meet the community needs by providing comprehensive leisure opportunities and conduct surveys to determine community needs.
3. Responsible for the inputting of information and general maintenance of the recreation software system.
4. Responsible for instructing general and advanced aquatic courses and programs including First Aid/CPR.
5. Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating staff.
6. Assists the Director with the marketing of recreation programs and services. Responsible for the production of the quarterly departmental program/service guide.
7. Responsible for proper recordkeeping and statistical information pertaining to session results, attendance and utilization.
8. Responsible for excellent customer service and professional conduct. Maintain good public and staff relations during day to day activities. Effectively liaison with various stakeholders, government officials and other important contacts.
9. Responsible for purchasing supplies, reviewing invoices, and forwarding for processing and approval.
10. Recommend to the Director new policies, procedures and programs.
11. Keep staff informed of and implement Department and Township policies and procedures. To keep staff abreast of current trends, innovation and techniques in the field.
12. Responsible for implementing the personnel management policies and procedures of the Department. Review staff payroll sheets for payment.
13. Responsible for staff meeting and training exercises to ensure current policy, procedures and health regulations are adhered to. Responsible for ensuring staff qualifications are met. Assigns staff to various duties. Ensure all supervised staff are adequately trained in operation of equipment and safety policies and procedures. (Reception, Aquatic, Recreational and Fitness Staff)
14. Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting policies and procedures of the Township and as authorized by the Director. Responsible for cash handling procedures, revenue sources, purchasing, and expenditure and inventory control. Prepare bank deposits and ensure that proper cash handling policies and procedures are followed.
15. Responsible for ensuring that the programs are properly developed and implemented including the coordination of general upkeep and cleanliness of the facilities which includes marketing and selling of the programs.
16. Recommend to the Director annual operating and capital budgets. Assist with long range planning.
17. Works in conjunction with the Coordinator of Facilities and Parks and any other stakeholder in the management of the facilities.
18. Shall be designated the Pool Operator, as per provincial regulations.
19. Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- College diploma in a related field
- Certifications: NLS, Red Cross/Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer, AST
- First Aid/CPR Instructor
- Office experience and proven fluency in operation of a computer Microsoft Office Suits.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Five years’ experience in recreation/aquatic field
- Experience in the direct delivery of recreation programming
- Strong Management Skills along with a strong desire to work in a recreational environment and is self-motivated.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate positive / effective public relations and presentation skills.
